A Kitten?

We have a kitten in the house!  No no, it's not staying permanently...REALLY.  A cat boarding client found a kitten mewing and wandering around his gate and he waited for the mother cat to turn up but she did not so he took it before it got mashed up on the road by passing vehicles. Then he thought...oh oh.  Now what.  It was a very young kitten (3 weeks, possibly) so he called to ask if I could foster it until it could eat solids and litter box trained. And that's how Merlene ended up at our place.

Coco was very interested in Merlene (everyone else, especially Meow-Me, hisses at her.  Poor little thing)
Ain't I just cute?  I love my horse "mummy".  Heh heh
Oooopsie!
Merlene is very active and each day brings new developments.  When she first came just 4 days ago, she was still crawling unsteadily but today she is walking quite confidently and starting to pounce on her toys.  She is still on milk and needs to be stimulated to eliminate.  I hope to transition her to babycat kibbles sometime later this week and also litter box train her at around the same time. It's such a joy to watch her grow up.

Her "sister" is here for boarding and she isn't too happy with the tiny mewing kitten. But Chi Chi is a very friendly cat so we think she would accept the kitten if introductions are done correctly.  Anyone has any tips on how to make the introductions go smoothly?  Chi Chi is an almost 4 year old spayed female who has been an only child for that many years.

How precious a little morsel of life. She reminds me of "our" baby we found by a school a few years ago. She was only 2 weeks old. We fed her kitten milk and floundered around not sure what to do. We inquired at a Pet Smart store within hours of finding her if they knew any one who could foster her and someone was standing right there who heard us..another teacher like my son but in a different school and she, the little one, was taken and raised by that person. She is a beautiful lady cat now.

How lucky was little Marlene to end up in your home ! she is so cute !
Female cats are not easy when it comes to kitten ! It's strange but males are far easier. It also depends on the character. Pookie has never accepted Rosie and still hisses at her and now that Rosie is 4 years old she hisses back. At the beginning she wanted to play with Pookie, but she only got slaps ! Arthur adopted the kitten immediately ! At that time I still had Lisa, but she just ignored her, she was too old. Just let them and see how it works. Normally they always find a way to go along with each other either or ...

Oh, Merlene is so cute and tiny. I'm so glad she's safe there with you. I wish I had advice on how for introductions but I don't have any experience with a kitten that young.

What sweet little toes! We have never had problems introducing a kitten into the Horde, but I imagine introducing a kitten to an "only" might take a little more finesse. I'd start by exchanging bedding, then maybe a meet-n-greet.

Oh my gosh Merlene is too darn cute. I love her and I love the name. My only suggestion to introducing them is to let Merlene have her very own room to start with so she has a safe place that she is comfortable in. Then let her out like for 5 or 10 minutes at time so they can get used to each other slowly. Also that gives the older cat the feeling that it is still in charge.
Just my thoughts. Take care.

She's just ADORABLE!

OMC! Gurss what came today???? Spitty has never reacted very strongly to any kitty "drug", though he does like his Nip Cigar.

BUT!!!

The minute he got wind of the silvervine powder--he went absolutely INSANE. Ha ha ha ha ha!!! I put a tiny bit on a plate and he almost inhaled the plate!

Be sure to visit Spitty's blog tomorrow as there will be pictures (though most of them are blurry as he was squirming around so much, LOL!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a pretty one! Just keep doing what You started with and it´s going to be a purrfekt pet for someone.
Having trouble with an older kitten our selfs. Friends living at our house for the moment, have a 6 months old boy kitten and our 14 year old male is not approving:-) Their dog is okay, he made clear by one swipe of the paw who´s the boss and she obeys.

So I guess you saw how, uh, "happy" Spitty was with his magic powder, MOL!!! I've never seen him act like that--it was hilarious! I think I might've given him a little bit of an overdose, ha ha ha. Thanks again!!!

What a sweetheart! We have never had any issues introducing kittens...although experience has been limited. A long tome ago when I had an "only" adult female and I introduced a baby kitten, my cat hissed at first but when all she got was a kitten mew in response, it took about 2 days for her to start mothering the kitten.

Cory has been our only other baby and everyone gets along with her.
